Getting out of the group chat

The group chat is where plans go to die. Keen is how they escape.

The pattern

Someone says “we should hang out.” Replies trickle in. Someone asks “when works?” Silence. Someone sends a meme. Repeat until everyone forgets.

The chat isn’t bad - it’s the wrong tool for decisions. It’s infinite, async, and has no structure.

What a plan does differently

A Keen plan is finite and concrete:

One slide to send. One card in chat. Confirm or counter-propose - but everyone’s looking at the same object.

How to break the loop

1. Stop asking open questions - “what should we do?” has too many answers
2. Bring one option - save an idea, make a plan, send it
3. Let the plan card do the work - chat becomes “I’m in” not “idk”
4. Edit formally if things change - update the plan, don’t bury the new time in message 847

When chat still wins

Logistics, jokes, running late, photos from the night - chat shines here. Use it after the plan exists, not instead of one.
